The production team of The Blue Wolves of Mibu TV anime series has revealed a second cast member for December. Ryota Takeuchi, known for his role as Elias Ainsworth in The Ancient Magus’ Bride 2nd Season, will take on the role of Serizawa Kamo, the commander of the Shinsengumi.
The TV anime series The Blue Wolves Of Mibu was announced in September 2023. Maho Film will produce it, and Kumiko Habara will direct it. Kenta Ihara will write the scripts, Yūko Ōba and Miyako Nishida will handle character designs, and Yuki Hayashi will compose the music.
The anime is adapted from Tsuyoshi Yasuda’s manga, which debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine on October 13, 2021. Kodansha has compiled the manga into individual tankōbon volumes, with the first volume released on February 17, 2022. As of November 16, 2023, eleven volumes have been released. During Anime Expo 2023, Kodansha USA revealed they acquired the English publishing rights for the series.
Kondansha describes the story of the historical samurai anime Ao no Miburo (The Blue Wolves of Mibu as:
Set in 1863, during the twilight of the shogunate in Japan. The country is undergoing significant changes, marked by political turmoil and growing tensions between wandering ronin and government samurai. The story revolves around Nio, a young orphan familiar with the harsh realities of the world. Despite this, he holds onto his passion for justice and a desire to make the world a better place.
One day, Nio encounters two key figures in the upcoming revolution: Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Souji, founding members of the Miburo, later known as the Shinsengumi. Inspired by the efforts of these “Blue Wolves of Mibu,” Nio decides to join their ranks to help create the world he envisions. However, faced with new betrayals and challenges each day, the question remains—can Nio stay true to his principles?
