Top 10 anime with ordinary characters – Who said being overpowered means having superpowers and getting involved in action scenes and epic fights?
Today we will be talking about ordinary and normal characters who are actually labeled as a different kind of being overpowered. Basically, powerful means always having a physical, superpower, or raw strength, but today we are going to be looking at some of the best ordinary anime characters that don’t have to do with fighting because let’s face it sometimes all you need is to use your brain.
Here We Go!
10. Bakuman
Starting off our list of the best ordinary anime characters with Morikata Mashiro from Bakuman. This series follows our main character Moritaka, who always dreamed of becoming a popular mangaka. When a fellow student takes note of his talent, he is convinced to join forces and his dream of becoming a great mangaka seems closer than ever. This anime is 3 seasons long and is filled with comedy, drama, and of course, a normal anime character who happens to be a great manga artist.
9. Bartender
This anime is about a seemingly ordinary man by the name of Ryuu Sasakura, who as you may have guessed, is a bartender. However he is not an ordinary bartender, he serves drinks at the hidden bar Eden Hall. Our normal anime character is so good and powerful at mixing drinks, that it is said he will make the best drink you’ve ever tasted. There are only 11 episodes to this anime but it’s filled with drama and really entertaining.
8. Black Jack
At number 8, we have Black Jack. Here we have another normal anime character “Kuroo Hazama”, who is actually a great doctor, and in saying that, this takes into account that he doesn’t have a medical license. Of course, this is illegal, however, he is such a legend that people still come to him to be treated when other doctors fail. He charges enormous sums of money in exchange for his services, but this ensures his dedication to his craft and drives to cure the hardest diseases. For Hazama there is nothing, not even the law, will stop him.
7. Cheating Craft
Coming at number 7, we have Cheating Craft. As you can probably guess from the name, this anime is about cheating. The show, much like the real world, portrays the stress of exams very well, and this stress divides people into 2 categories, the learning type, and the cheating type. These students try their best to battle their way to the top of the grade, by either studying or cheating. This Chinese anime series focuses on the main character, who is a cheater by the name of Mu Ming and is portrayed as a powerful character in this action, comedy anime.
6. Denpa Kyoushi
Junichirou Kagami is a famous genius, known for his pursuits in the world of physics, he abandons his scientific career, but after a while, he takes up a position at a high school as a physics teacher. He doesn’t have any interest in teaching the standard curriculum, but that definitely doesn’t mean he cannot teach his students anything. Classified as a comedy, this anime definitely deserves a spot on this list because of its ordinary otaku main character.
5. Hyouka
Hyouka is another good school anime with many normal characters. However, the Mc is smart and badass which makes him a powerful character in his own way… His name is Houtarou Oreki, a high school student who signs up for a club, only to find it filled with mysteries. Considered the smartest character by many viewers, Oreki proves over and over again just how intelligent he actually is. Originally released in April of 2012, this anime is rightly classified as a school, mystery, and slice of life.
4. Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai
Next at number 4, we have Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai. Keima Katsuragi is the ordinary anime character we’re going to be looking at, and his special talent is being good at dating girls… or, at least playing dating simulators and being good at that. However, he needs to become the master of dating 3-dimensional girls if he is to help lock away demons that escaped from hell. This is a pretty good and underrated anime to watch, which is classified under comedy and romance and was first seen in October 2007.
3. Oregairu
In the series of Oregairu, we have the ordinary main character Hachiman Hikigaya. His special talent, if you can call it that, is being so cynical that he believes childhood is a waste of time. He makes his opinions heard, and this leads to him being forced to join a school club that helps other students. He obviously tries to solve problems his own way, but will it be enough, or will he have to find another way? This anime has 3 seasons and was originally released in March 2011. It is comprised of genres such as comedy, school, and romance.
2. Sakamoto desu ga?
Next up at number 2, we have, Sakamoto desu ga? Here we have a seemingly ordinary main character, who goes by the name Sakamoto, who has definitely earned this anime list podium. Sakamoto is an Op, a cool, calm, and collected character, that everyone either wants to be or wants to be with. He always has a plan for everything. One of the coolest anime characters, he was first seen in April of 2016, and this show is classified into genres like comedy, school, and seinen.
1. Shokugeki no Souma
In the number 1 position of the most interesting ordinary anime characters, we have Shokugeki no Souma. More famously known by its English name, Food Wars, this anime follows a normal, but skillful chef named Souma Yukihira on his journey through one of the most prestigious culinary schools. Food Wars is One of my personal favorites, because this anime portrays cook-offs as action battles, and shows how Souma is ready to take on any challenge thrown at him. Originally released in April of 2015, and expecting season 5 to be the last installment of the anime, it is classified under comedy, ecchi, and shounen.
