The anime movie adaptation of Look Back is officially announced! Along with a teaser visual and a promotional video. Studio Durian will be producing it, with Kiyotaka Oshiyama directing, handling the screenplay, and designing the characters. The release date of Look Back anime film is set for June 28, 2024 in Japan.

Look Back is a Japanese web manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It’s about Ayumu Fujino, a talented elementary schooler who draws manga for her school’s paper. When another student named Kyomoto starts publishing her own manga and outshines Ayumu, Ayumu becomes obsessed with beating her. This obsession causes Ayumu to isolate herself from friends and family. Eventually, Ayumu discovers that Kyomoto is actually a fan of her work. They team up to create manga together and receive praise for their work. As teenagers, Ayumu gets the chance to serialize her manga, but Kyomoto chooses to pursue formal art education instead. Tragedy strikes when Kyomoto is caught in a mass murder at an art college. Feeling guilty for inspiring Kyomoto to pursue art, Ayumu tries to change the past, but ultimately realizes the impact her manga had on Kyomoto’s life. She decides to continue drawing manga, finding purpose in bringing joy to others through her art.

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot web manga Look Back debuted on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ online platform on July 19, 2021. The 143-page story, both written and illustrated by Fujimoto, captivated readers with its compelling narrative. Following its online release, Shueisha compiled the chapter into a single volume, which hit the shelves on September 3, 2021. Viz Media later made the manga available in English on its platform, Manga Plus, and announced its licensing in February 2022. The English version was officially published on September 20, 2022, reaching a wider audience beyond Japan.
Look Back garnered over 2.5 million reads on its first day and surpassed 4 million reads within two days of release. The tankōbon volume of the manga achieved impressive sales figures, ranking fourth and third on Oricon’s weekly manga chart in its first and second weeks, respectively. Additionally, Look Back earned numerous accolades, including topping Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 list and receiving nominations for prestigious awards like the Eisner Award.
