The anime adaptation of Pluto by Studio M2 was first announced during the 2017 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June. This confirmation was reaffirmed by Studio M2 founder Masao Maruyama in May 2022. The project is a collaborative effort involving Genco, Tezuka Productions, and Studio M2, with the latter managing animation services. Toshio Kawaguchi is directing the series, and Naoki Urasawa serves as the creative advisor. Shigeru Fujita is in charge of character design and supervising animation direction, while Yugo Kanno is responsible for the music. The anime is set to be exclusively streaming on Netflix starting from October 26, 2023, featuring a total of eight episodes, each lasting 60 minutes.
- Pluto is a manga from Japan created by Naoki Urasawa. It was published in a magazine called Big Comic Original from September 2003 to April 2009. The story is based on a part of Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy, a famous Japanese series about robots. The main character in “Pluto” is Gesicht, a robot detective from Europol. He tries to solve a mystery involving the deaths of both robots and humans. The series got its name from a chief villain in Astro Boy. Takashi Nagasaki helped write the series. It was also supervised by Macoto Tezka, the son of Osamu Tezuka, and Tezuka Productions helped too. The manga got popular and was released in English in North America under the title Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka.
