best science fiction movies

Here was the hardest choice ever, but it was one we had to make. Although Star Wars movies are more science fiction than straight sci-fi, they usually fall under the science fiction banner.

We’re going to count it, and if we’re going to count it, it will be number one. Not many people thought the original Star Wars could top.

This movie does not try. Vader’s reveal was incredibly bold, but it’s not the only thing the movie has to offer: We have an epic battle on a snowy planet, the Millennium Falcon shines in an asteroid field, Lando Calrissian, and some Han / Leia best banter in any of the movies. We love it. everyone knows that.

Now an admiral, Kirk feels his age in this movie. Dr. McCoy points out that he prefers “galactic jumps” and that he is not wrong.

best science fiction movies

Building on Arthur C. Clark’s short story The Guardian, Stanley Kubrick co-wrote the script for this classic with Clark himself, and the result is a slow journey into the depths of space that becomes something much deeper.

The mysterious mantle helps the monkeys discover tools in one of the best pieces in film history, where the rotating bone becomes the rotating parts of a space station. Here, with one red light and an unforgettable menacing sound, Kubrick and his companions created one of science fiction’s most iconic antagonists.

HAL is just one (terrifying) piece of art among science fiction movies that begs you to think of humanity’s path of dirt through the stars.

7. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

sci fi movies

Spielberg’s 1982 movie about a boy and an alien who secretly befriends them is one of those bizarre, sweet encounters that humanity will inevitably fail.

There are so many special moments in this honest film that it’s hard to know where to start – ET’s use of Speak and Spell, the effect of Reece’s Pieces and E.T. The raised neck (and flared finger) all stand out.

They are only outdone by one scene: flying bikes. With the final showing of John Williams’ record and defeating the government soundly, few sci-fi movies mix successful adventure with crying so beautifully.

6. Aliens (1986)

aliens 1986

It was a tough choice for Alien to appear in this best science fiction movies list, and (of course) it was a choice between Ridley Scott’s first film and the follow-up to James Cameron.

It had to be Cameron. He gives us the Great Marines (Bill Paxton! Al Matthews! Paul Reiser!) And changes Eileen Ripley of Sigourney Weaver from heroine to out of time looking for a home.

And if you want to talk about iconic scenes in sci-fi movies, look no further than Ripley’s battle that ends in a movie with the Alien Queen.

Ripley enters into a future lifter and offers you the perfect ‘Get Away From It Bitch’ before taking the Queen to town and running away with a new family.

5. Blade Runner (1982)

blade runner film

There are around fifty-four different versions of this movie (we might overreact) but for the purposes of this list, we’ll go with the latest “Final Cut”.

Based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ? by Philip K. Dock’s. This 1982 Ridley Scott classic has become so iconic that its look and tone is still constantly being copied.

Harrison Ford’s driver Rick Deckard pursues artificial life forms called replicas and raises all kinds of ethical questions.

By the end of the movie, Deckard wonders if he’s an exact replica. Deckard’s question is one of the most popular debates in science fiction movies, and thanks to Ford, we actually do care.

However, nothing beats Rutger Hauer’s final moments as Roy Batty – his ending is one of the strongest monologues in any movies.

This is a Sci-fi Noire featuring limitless creativity, but its box office disappointment become among the most sci fi legendary movies.

back to the future

Time travel is a familiar staple of science fiction movies settings, with loads of serious and some very silly techniques – but only one strikes the perfect balance between the two.

In 1985, Robert Zemeckis (and Marty McFly) took us to 1955. We got there via a time-traveling DeLorean invented by a friend of Marty the crack and now we have to go back.

Avoiding incest, rocking rock and changing the course of history, Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lee Thompson, Crispin Glover and Tom Wilson make the movie an exciting and enjoyable journey.

best science fiction movies

Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest filmmakers who have ever lived and this is the type he thrives on.

Yes, this movie is remembered for its groundbreaking visual effects bringing dinosaurs back to life (in a way that’s safer than the characters in the movie), but the movie’s ideas make it a classic.

Dr.Ian Malcolm of Jeff Goldblum has an ongoing ethical debate with John Hammond of Sir Richard Attenborough about the rights and mistakes of cloning dinosaurs.

Just because you can clone dinosaurs doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Add Sam Neill, Laura Dern and one of the best scores John Williams has ever written and you’ve got something really special.

Due to a medical condition affecting the entire world, mankind has lost the ability to reproduce.

What actually causes this phenomenon has not been touched upon, and it is one of the finest aspects of Alfonso Cuaron’s finely photographed masterpiece.

It doesn’t matter why we don’t breed anymore – there are no longer children and the world, as you might imagine, doesn’t handle this well.

Theo by Cliff Owen helps us lead us through the long, still mind-boggling paths of Cuarron, this is among the greatest science fiction movies that submerging us in a miserable future that seems so plausible.

1. District 9

best science fiction movies

Hey Sci-fi Fans, This is our number 1 among the list of the best recommended science fiction movies to watch.

This Sci Fi film’s metaphor of ethnic intolerance is evident and only becomes apparent when we see how horrific provincial life can be for foreign visitors, often referred to as “prawns”.

In fact, Brilliant Charlotte Copley anchors the film as a screening agent whose bias is tested after an encounter that results in some strange mutations.

Using found footage, and pseudo documentary style, Blomkamp creates a practical and realistic science fiction environment on the ground.

Aliens look realistic, and so does their technology – and the human response? Unfortunately, this is true on target.
