Senpai is an Otokonoko anime release date

Senpai is an Otokonoko, also known as This is Him, is a Japanese romance manga created by Pom. It’s about a love triangle with Makoto Hanaoka, who cross-dresses; Saki Aoi, a bisexual younger student; and Ryūji Taiga, a childhood friend of Makoto’s. The manga was serialized digitally on Line Manga from 2019 to 2021 and has been collected into tankōbon print volumes by Ichijinsha since 2021. The English translation by Webtoon started on March 9, 2023.

The story follows Makoto Hanaoka, a second-year student who looks feminine and catches the attention of others. Saki Aoi, a first-year student, falls in love with Makoto as soon as she sees her. Saki, with her lively personality, confidently confesses her feelings to Makoto. However, there’s a surprising twist—Makoto is not a girl but a boy who enjoys cross-dressing!

After sharing his secret with Saki, Makoto expects her to react negatively. To his surprise, Saki is fascinated by the revelation instead. Despite this, Makoto rejects her, but Saki is determined to make him her first love. With Saki and his childhood friend by his side, Makoto’s world becomes brighter, giving him strength in the face of the conflict between his interests and societal expectations.

Pom, the creator of the series, explored themes of love regardless of gender and initially conceived the concept to overcome challenges in drawing male characters. The manga gained popularity among readers, receiving positive reviews for its writing and characters, and earned the third-place spot in the web manga category at the 2021 Next Manga Award. Additionally, it ranked as the third most-read Line Manga series in 2021.
