Jujutsu Kaisen, created by Gege Akutami, is a Japanese manga series that started being published in March 2018 in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine by Shueisha. It has 24 volumes as of October 2023, compiling all the chapters. The anime adaptation, consisting of 24 episodes, was produced by MAPPA and aired from October 2020 to March 2021, with a second season premiering in July 2023. Crunchyroll holds the streaming license for the anime outside of Asia and released an English dub in November 2020. Additionally, the anime’s original soundtrack was made available in April 2021.
As of July 2023, more than 80 million copies of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, including related novels, digital versions, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, have been circulated. This achievement makes it one of the highest-selling manga series ever.
The main story of Jujutsu Kaisen is about Yuuji Itadori, a high school student who enjoys spooky activities with the Occult Club. His routine involves spending time in the clubroom or visiting his sick grandfather. However, things take a drastic turn when he accidentally encounters a cursed object. After swallowing the item, which happens to be a finger belonging to the demon Sukuna Ryoumen, the King of Curses, Yuuji becomes entangled in supernatural events. Now, he breaks into the world of Curses—terrifying creatures born from human negativity.
Yuuji discovers his own powers and experiences the threat these Curses pose to society. As he enters the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, he ventures on an irreversible mission—the path of a Jujutsu sorcerer.
