ELLEGARDEN Performs New ONE PIECE Anime Opening Theme Song “Carmine”

Rock Band Makes Their Anime Debut with ONE PIECE Opening Theme “Carmine”

The beloved and long-running ONE PIECE anime is ushering in a powerful new opening sequence featuring the new theme song “Carmine”, performed by the acclaimed Japanese rock band ELLEGARDEN. The announcement was made on the official ONE PIECE franchise website and marks the band’s first-ever anime theme contribution since their formation.

“Carmine” will serve as the 28th opening theme song for the popular anime, succeeding the current theme song “Tenshi to Akuma,” which is performed by GRe4N BOYZ. The new opening will make its debut in Episode 1139, scheduled to air in Japan on August 10, 2025. In addition to the TV premiere, the song will be released for digital download and streaming at 23:45 JST on the same day, immediately following the airing of the episode.

ELLEGARDEN: A Rock Legacy Joins The ONE PIECE Universe

ELLEGARDEN is a four-member rock band originating from Chiba Prefecture, Japan. The band, formed in December 1998, consists of Takeshi Hosomi (vocals, guitar), Shinichi Ubukata (guitar), Yuichi Takada (bass), and Hiroki Takahashi (drums). Over the course of their career, they have released six maxi-singles and six full-length studio albums, establishing themselves as a significant force in Japan’s alternative rock scene.

Marking a milestone in their over two decades of musical output, “Carmine” represents ELLEGARDEN’s first anime-related song. According to their official website, the band members have long expressed admiration for ONE PIECE, making this collaboration especially meaningful for both the musicians and fans of the series.

The ONE PIECE franchise also released a short promotional video featuring “Carmine” on its official YouTube channel, giving audiences an early glimpse of the song’s energetic style and its role in setting the tone for the upcoming episodes.

Anime Production: Studio and Staff Bringing ONE PIECE to Life

The ONE PIECE anime continues to be produced by the respected animation studio Toei Animation, which has been responsible for the television adaptation since its debut in October 1999. Known for delivering high-quality visuals and remaining faithful to the source material, Toei Animation brings Eiichiro Oda’s world of pirates to life with each new episode.

The main voice cast for the anime includes:

  • Mayumi Tanaka as Monkey D. Luffy
  • Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro
  • Akemi Okamura as Nami
  • Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp
  • Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji
  • Ikue Ōtani as Tony Tony Chopper
  • Yuriko Yamaguchi as Nico Robin
  • Kazuki Yao as Franky
  • Cho as Brook
  • Katsuhisa Hōki as Jinbei

The anime is directed by Tatsuya Nagamine, with series composition by Shōji Yonemura. Character designs continue under the artistic direction of Midori Matsuda and Masayuki Sato, while the iconic score is composed by Kōhei Tanaka and Shirō Hamaguchi.

Where to Watch ONE PIECE and Listen to “Carmine”

New episodes of ONE PIECE are currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, which provides simulcast episodes every week. The platform offers both subtitled and dubbed versions in multiple languages, catering to fans around the globe.

“Carmine” will be released digitally on major music platforms following its television debut on August 10, 2025. The song’s release is being coordinated to coincide with Episode 1139, ensuring that fans will be able to enjoy it both within the anime and as a standalone track.

Series Overview: ONE PIECE’s Enduring Adventure

Based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda, which began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1997, ONE PIECE follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as they journey through treacherous worlds in search of the ultimate treasure — the legendary “One Piece.” The series has become one of the most recognized and beloved anime worldwide, with a loyal fanbase and a legacy that spans over two decades.

Crunchyroll describes the premise as follows:

“Monkey D. Luffy refuses to let anyone or anything stand in the way of his quest to become the king of all pirates. With a course charted for the treacherous waters of the Grand Line and beyond, this is one captain who will never give up until he’s claimed the greatest treasure on Earth: the Legendary One Piece!”

“Carmine” Ushers in a New Chapter for ONE PIECE

As ONE PIECE continues to dominate global anime viewership, the introduction of ELLEGARDEN’s “Carmine” marks both a fresh musical direction for the series and a noteworthy cultural crossover for the band. With its high-energy guitar riffs and emotional depth, the song promises to complement the unfolding narrative of ONE PIECE’s ever-evolving saga.

Fans can look forward to the new opening theme starting August 10, 2025, when “Carmine” makes its official debut during Episode 1139 on Japanese television and global streaming platforms.
