The official Black Butler website shared this news on Thursday, that The Black Butler: Public School Arc anime is confirmed and will start airing in April 2024 on various networks like Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, BS11, and MBS. They also revealed a special visual to celebrate Ciel Phantomhive’s birthday on December 14th. This visual complements the visual for Sebastian Michaelis that was released earlier.
Black Butler, aka Kuroshitsuji in Japanese, is a manga series created by the talented Yana Toboso. The story revolves around Ciel Phantomhive, a 12-year-old Earl serving as the Queen’s Watchdog in Victorian-era London. Ciel, along with his demon butler Sebastian Michaelis, tackles criminal mysteries in the city’s underworld. Their partnership is driven by Ciel’s quest for revenge against those who harmed his family. In return for Sebastian’s assistance, there’s a pact that allows the demon to eventually consume Ciel’s soul. The manga has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy magazine since September 2006.
The first season of the Black Butler anime, with 24 episodes, was created by A-1 Pictures and aired on TV from October 2008 to March 2009. The second season, with 12 episodes, aired from July to September 2010. This season introduced two new characters and had a unique story not found in the manga. Another series called “Black Butler: Book of Circus” aired from July to September 2014. Additionally, there’s a two-part original video animation (OVA) titled “Black Butler: Book of Murder,” shown in Japanese theaters in October and November 2014. Japan also had a live-action film adaptation in January 2014. An anime movie named “Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic” was released in Japan in January 2017.

At Anime Expo 2023, Crunchyroll shared exciting news about the upcoming fourth season of Black Butler called Black Butler: Public School Arc. It’s currently in production and will be directed by Kenjirou Okada, produced by CloverWorks, and features Hiroyuki Yoshino overseeing the series composition. Yumi Shimizu is designing the characters, and Ryo Kawasaki is composing the music. The new season is expected to premiere in April 2024 on Tokyo MX and other networks.
